| My first job at CEGA Services began as volunteer work in 1992, then moved
into a paid part time job. CEGA was located in a shared building with Norwestern
Metals, and located in a scrap yard, basically. The ceilings leaked, there
was shag carpet on the walls, and mineral depsosit hanging from the back
sink faucet, as if it were a stalagtite. It cleaned up over the years I
worked there. :)
CEGA was named for the owners, Gary and Cece Hill, using the first 2
letters of their first names. Gary did a lot of work for the United Nations,
and in the beginning my job was answering just a few 800 numbers for Literacy
and GED. These evolved into 800 number for many different clients including
Classic Cards, Carsons, Rainforest Rescue, Adopt-A-Whale, and many more.
For a very few of these numbers, I answered in Spanish since I was taking
it in high school. Unfortunately, I have long forgotten most of it.
My supervisor was Mel Walker, who ended up taking over ownership of the
call center portion of the business and renamed it to Global Network Communications.
More history coming.
