The Race

I run
crashing through the night
eyes wild and red
from too much smoke
and I cry to the moon
out of breath
as I fall to my knees
in pain
losing the race
wondering if I should give up
and I hear them behind
chasing
wanting me to lose
I scramble up
my mind warped
numb
yet functioning with fear
the shadows jump at me
the world a fun house
warping the images
and I stumble
falling
falling
through nothing
as there is nothing to catch me
and faces appear
loves taunting me
laughing as I cry
and I fall
until eternity is no more.
