A Love That Was

Above and beyond my body
shine stars
a wish for very child
yet not a wish for me
as they whisper
a love that was
now a love that isn't
and my temper rises
as the night sighs it's pleasure
pain bringers
dwelling in the shadows
that my human eyes
cannot see
Below and beyond my soul
lies a well
a wishing well not empty
bottom sparkling faith
and the coins giggle
a love that was
now a love that isn't
and my blood pulses
as the night breathes in my distress
knowing how close I am
to the edge of immortality
so I weep upon the stones
grasses wipe away my tears
with false empathy
telling of comfort
on the other side of life
there is no god,
they say
and I know they speak the truth
wishing it weren't so
my self impure
want of freedom overriding
a love that was
now a love that isn't
so I succumb
in the end.
